WORKING WITH HOLLY

The Grief Recovery Method®

I will guide you through The Grief Recovery Method® using The Grief Recovery Handbook, so you will glean a clear understanding of what grief is. You will uncover any misinformation you may have learned about grief that could be contributing to some emotional and behavioral habits that have not served you well in your healing. You will recognize that the losses we all experience when we are young can form our grief responses to future losses. The culmination of our time together will result in feeling complete with one or more losses.

While this is a 7-session program, I realize that each person’s grief and healing journey is unique and individual for them, therefore, we may decide to include additional sessions beyond those 7 weeks. My top priority is you and guiding you to a place of feeling emotional freedom from the pain of your loss/es.

As part of this action-based psycho-educational program, you will receive The Grief Recovery Handbook – 20th Anniversary Expanded Edition. As we work together, you will have readings from The Grief Recovery Handbook, as well as homework assignments that will assist you in your healing.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What does recovery mean when grieving?

Recovery is finding new meaning for living, without the fear of being hurt again. Recovery is being able to enjoy fond memories without having them precipitate painful feelings. Recovery is acknowledging that it is perfectly all right to feel sad from time to time and to talk about those feelings no matter how others around you react. Recovery is one day realizing that your ability to talk about the loss you’ve experienced is indeed normal and healthy. Most importantly, recovery means acquiring the skills that we should have been taught in childhood.

Do the Five Stages of Grief apply to bereavement?

The stages—Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance—were created by Elizabeth Kubler-Ross for those in late stage illnesses, but not for the bereaved. Grief is not linear so applying the above stages can actually cause more stress on the griever.

Is there proof that the Grief Recovery Method works?

The Grief Recovery Method has been proven to be evidence based and effective by Kent State University.

You have truly helped me find peace and I carry it with me everyday. It's just easier seeing the big picture now and focusing on me. Like you said, who wants to spend all their time being miserable! But that's just it, I'm not miserable! Having fun rebuilding my life and no longer being a monkey in that circus!

“We will all experience grief in our lifetime. The so-named "5 stages of grief" are aptly described by Holly as stages of illness, not grief, and truly should not be applied to someone in mourning. With compassion and understanding Holly leads you through The Grief Recovery Method and is excellent in giving you the needed tools for recovering from loss as well as opportunity for personal healing.”—ME

“There aren't enough words to express to acknowledge Holly. After knowing her through her work at temple and seeing how dedicated and committed she was to working with children, and her compassion for all humans, is just the beginning. She is kind, gentle, funny, and brilliant. Holly has transformed her life's purpose and has helped me personally, and professionally, learn about grief and loss, on a completely different level. Her approach is practical yet genuine and she is fully present in every moment. She made me think about past and current life events differently than ever before. As a psychologist I have recommended many of my clients to Holly and will continue to do so. She is amazing! ”

I always associated grief with death. I never thought about the many different types of grief that I encountered in my life… and I spent lots of time and money looking for ways to remove the obstacles to success... never considering that underlying, unresolved grief and unfinished communication were the primary obstacles. Holly skillfully and compassionately guided me through the stages of facing the grief—which I needed to do, but did not want to do, finishing the communication and moving forward! Freedom is one phone call away.” —KW

“Holly is a sweet and beautiful soul that has found her purpose. It has been my pleasure and joy to work with her and receive her insight and love to support my current journey.
